Welcome

The Lac Courte Oreilles Foundation provides funding for the protection, preservation and restoration of the water quality of Lac Courte Oreilles. The Foundation works closely with the Courte Oreilles Lakes Association (COLA) and other stakeholders to underwrite programs that will enhance the value of our aquatic treasure.

To achieve its purposes, the Corporation’s funds are used to stop pollution, particularly phosphorus pollution, to restore habitat, research water quality issues, combat aquatic invasive species, meet financial requirements under state grants that benefit the water quality of the lake, educate property owners and the public about proper lake stewardship practices, protect the water quality of the lake and for such other uses as may be appropriate.

It is our hope that the Foundation can successfully perform these functions so that lake front owners, day users, and visitors to our lake can enjoy a clean and beautiful lake for decades.

2017 Tips For The Giving Season

Tips for the Giving Season

The stock market has recently provided a gift of strong returns to many investors. If you’re one of them, it might be time to consider making your own gift of appreciated securities.

Your gift of securities such as stocks, bonds, or mutual fund shares may offer certain advantages over a cash gift.  A gift of appreciated securities that have been held for more than one year may provide significant benefits to you as a contributor:

  • Contributions of appreciated securities are generally deductible at market value, regardless of what the donor paid for them.
  • The capital gains tax is also avoided through such a gift.

Remember, Dec. 31 falls on a Sunday.  We recommend making your gift of securities early enough so the transaction will settle by Friday, December 29.

IRA transfer, it’s easy and if you are age 70 ½ or older, you can transfer up to $100,000 directly from your IRA while excluding the amount distributed from income.  These charitable gifts count against your required minimum distribution.

Please contact Richard Land at landrr@aol.com  or call 281.797.0337 if you’d like any additional information regarding a gift of securities to the Lac Courte Oreilles Foundation, Inc.

Remember to always consult with your financial advisor before initiating a charitable gift transaction.

Together, we can continue to improve and preserve the water quality of our lakes!

Stock Donations

Donating publically traded shares that have risen in value and held for more than one year can save capital gains tax and generate a charitable donation deduction of the appreciated value. Check with your financial adviser and contact the Foundation's Trustee and Treasurer for details on share transfers to our Brokerage Account. See 'DONATE NOW' green tab to the left for more detailed information.
